Current Bill Summary

SB 162 - Under this act, a landlord may only enter the premises rented by the lessee for a reasonable business purpose and after giving reasonable notice. The landlord cannot require the lessee to waive his or her right of prior notice as a condition of entering a lease. If the landlord violates this act, the lessee may receive: 1) a rent reduction up to a full rescission of the lease; 2) his or her security deposit; and 3) a $100 fine may be imposed upon the landlord.

This act will apply to written and oral leases entered into or renewed on or after January 1, 2002.

This act is similar to SB 691 (2000).
